How we choose merino

We grade merino by fibre diameter in microns. The lower the number, the softer and less itchy the knit. For socks we use fibre around 18.5 microns — fine enough for direct skin contact, yet resistant to abrasion.

Origin matters too. We favour farms certified for animal welfare that exclude mulesing. Without traceable origin we don't buy the fibre, even when it's cheaper.

The last ingredient is processing. We blend merino with a small share of nylon and elastane so the sock holds its shape and survives hundreds of washes without losing thermoregulation.
